Thirteen elderly lords disappear for an afternoon in shame in an unassuming villa – for speed dating. The ensuing conversations at the six tables with a changing cast, the collapses at the bar, the gossip on the toilet and the interaction with the shy presenter show a generation between pride and shame. An afternoon that leaves some in a false sense of triumph, others in disappointment and others with a new glimmer of hope.
Jan Georg Schütte realized his fascinating television project without a script, but with thirteen old stars (including legends such as Angela Winkler, Mario Adorf or Michael Gwisdek) who only went to the meetings with a character biography and prove that they are still fit for improvisations and spontaneous ideas. The result is an astonishing authenticity – whether the convoluted creative wants to recite poems, the hardened bourgeois hides her loneliness, or the prolled living man talks openly about sex in old age.
