Germany just before the turn of the millennium. Sebastian Zöllner (DANIEL BRÜHL), art journalist and master of self-overestimation, is planning his big coup: a book of revelations about the legendary but almost forgotten painter Manuel Kaminski (JESPER CHRISTENSEN), a student of Matisse and friend of Picasso, who once rose to fame as a “blind painter”. The unscrupulous and ambitious careerist makes his way to the remote chalet high up in the Alps, where the old artist lives withdrawn and shielded from confidants. He invades Kaminski’s house, life and past and takes him on a breakneck and insane journey to his death-believed love of youth. Along the way, he wants to unravel his secrets with cunning and audacity. But soon he finds that he is in no way up to the old, blind or not.
